简介：The term refractory ascites defines the ascites that cannot be mobilized or the early recurrence of which (after paracentesis) cannot be prevented by medical therapy. Diuretic resistant ascites is the refractory ascites due to lack of response to intensive diuretic therapy. Diuretic intractable ascites is the refractory ascites associated to complications induced by diuretic therapy (renal failure, severe hyponatremia, encephalopathy) that preclude the use of an effective diuretic dosage.
